Mercedes Lineup Aims to be Petroleum Free by 2015

Mercedes F700 Concept free of petrol by 2015

The German Auto Giants are working on various projects to make their entire lineup free of petrol usage by 2015. Some of their fuel alternatives are battery electrics, fuel cells and highly efficient internal combustion engines that can operate on biofuels.

The F700 concept that debuted last fall in Frankfurt is powered by a turbocharged DiesOtto engine. The DiesOtto is Mercedes’ branding for a combined HCCI and spark ignition engine that provides nearly the same efficiency as a diesel without the need for the expensive after-treatment systems. There has been reports that they have been permitting European journalists review these new powertrains at a test facility in Spain.

Let’s hope they come up with some fantastic innovation to save us from this sky touching gas prices.
